Another Bowl

Greg Nelson

Welcome back to school and classes. Seniors, you are almost there, so don’t let senioritis bite you too bad. Congratulations to those of you who have been accepted to SMU to start in Fall 2011.

As you may recall during break, our very own SMU Mustangs football team played in the Armed Forces Bowl right here on our campus in Gerald J. Ford Stadium. The game was sold out and the largest crowd ever in that stadium saw a tight game between the Mustangs and Army. Army came out on top, but we are still very proud of the season the SMU football team had, and we hope for an even better one next season!

Well believe it or not, Bowl season is here again, but this time it isn’t the Armed Forces Bowl, it is the Super Bowl. This year the Super Bowl will be held in Arlington at Cowboys Stadium. During the week leading up to the big game, the Green Bay Packers will hold their practices on SMU’s campus. The Steelers will be somewhere else… Unfortunately the practices will be closed to the public but it is still really cool that an NFL team will be using SMU’s facilities for Super Bowl preperation. There is also going to be an NFL experience in Dallas that will be open to the public. This is just an example of the different types of activities that go on in Dallas and the perks to being close to a big city.

Best of luck the rest of the year and for those of you who are waiting to hear back from other colleges and universities about your status. We hope that no matter where you choose to go that you give SMU a serious consideration because it is a great school with a lot to offer.
