Today marked the grand opening of Cafe 100 which brews Starbucks Coffee! Over the Christmas break, SMU renovated Java City to become a Starbucks. Cafe 100 also serves as one of the first Centennial Celebration events on campus. SMU was founded in 1911 and Cafe 100 is the perfect way to celebrate that history.
The decor inside Cafe 100 is very vibrant and bright, offering students the opportunity to look at the past and the present merged into one. At the opening, President Turner, Provost Ludden, Vice-President Cheves and Andrew Conwell all gave remarks before holding up their branded coffee mugs for a photo. The event was attended by hundreds of students who could not wait to get their hands on the mugs, free treats and pictures with Peruna the mascot.
Throughout the day, “celebrity baristas” passed out coffee and got people pumped about Cafe 100. I got to be a “celebrity barista” and it was a fun experience. I am very happy I was able to be apart of such a historic event. I think that is the beauty about SMU. Here, students have the opportunity to be apart of something special every single day both in and out of the classroom. Check out some photos from the event below!
Until next time…Pony Up!
