Homecoming is right around corner and people are already getting ready. Organizations have already started planning their floats and getting ready for the parade. I am a member if Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and I am MOST excited about the 2nd Annual SMU Homecoming Step Show! This is only the second year that we will be having the show but it’s definitely going to be extra fun!
So here’s the deal:
National Panhellenic Council Fraternities and Sororities are a body of predominantly African American organizations. They include Alpha Phi Alpha, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, Omega Psi Phi, Kappa Alpha Psi, Phi Beta Sigma, Zeta Phi Beta, Sigma Gamma Rho, and Iota Phi Theta. These organizations, including my own are known for a variety of different things, including strutting, strolling, hopping and stepping.
As a collective council, we thought it would be a great idea to foster some unity between the councils at SMU – PHC, IFC, and MGC. For this reason, each of the NPHC organizations has been paired off with another organization in ANOTHER council and will teach them how to step and strut, and we will ALL get to see the final product on Homecoming! Please believe that this is NOT a show you want to miss. Last year, we were in the theatre in Hughes Trigg and we had to turn people away because there were SO many attendees. People were sitting in the aisles…that’s how packed it was. AND OMG IT WAS SO MUCH FUN! We have already started practicing with our respective organizations and we will be sure to show up and show out on that day! Not only do current students attend, but alumni members come back just to see the show. I’ll be sure to upload any pictures and videos from the event.
I’m SO incredibly excited!
