SMU’s Heart Beats for Haiti

By Courtney Steele

Hey y’all! I hope everyone is slowly getting back into the swing of things and having a great start to the spring semester!

I spent last week with a “fill in” Advertising Literacy professor. Our regular prof was not out sick nor on some form of sabatical, but instead he was across the globe in Haiti helping with the relief effort. Because of his history of working in orphanages in Port-Au-Prince and extensive background in third-world countries, he was asked to join an emergency team that left last Sunday. With wishes of safe travels, he and his team went to Haiti and made their contribution to the effort. He is now back safely with photos to show, stories to tell and encouragement to help with the effort.

Campus is now busy with the three week fundraising event “SMU’s Heart Beats for Haiti“. All of campus is working hard to come together and raise as much money as we can to make a united donation from SMU to the Clinton-Bush Relief Fund. Events are going on, hearts are hung in Hughes-Trigg recognizing donors and everyone is coming together to try and do their part. This event is prominent around campus while students, faculty and student organizations are working hard to make that final donation as large as we can!

I hope everyone has a great rest of the week! Pony Up!
