The SMU Staff Association (SMUSA) has planned its traditional holiday luncheon for 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Dec. 10 in the Umphrey Lee Ballroom. But the organization’s holiday spirit reaches into the North Texas community and beyond through its support of two United Way member agencies.
SMUSA has created a Virtual Angel Tree for the Salvation Army. SMU community members – as individuals, groups or entire departments – can adopt a child from the Staff Association list available online. To adopt an Angel, visit the SMUSA website to choose a child, then fill out the online form with the ID number of your Angel. Please wait for a confirmation e-mail before making purchases; the confirmation will include complete details on your Angel. Gifts must be turned in by Dec. 8 or may be brought to the SMUSA Holiday Luncheon Dec. 10.
SMU community members can also participate in the Salvation Army’s Forgotten Angels program for homeless children and teens and seniors in nursing homes. The program collects appropriate items across a variety of age groups for holiday distribution. Visit the Staff Association website for a list of suggested items.
The Association also supports USO Dallas/Fort Worth by hosting Operation Send-Off – a supply drive for soldiers’ necessities ranging from batteries to toiletries and from calling cards to chocolate bars. Find a complete list of supplies at SMUSA’s Operation Send-Off page. Departments and organizations that would like to host a USO collection box may send an e-mail to the Staff Association.
In a further show of support, this year’s SMUSA holiday luncheon will benefit the USO. The cost for the luncheon is $14.99. RSVP to the Staff Association and send checks to SMU Box 152.
