Demolition of former Chase Bank to begin Monday, June 19, 2017

Rogers-O’Brien Construction Company will begin demolition of the former Chase Bank building in the 6500 block of Hillcrest Avenue on Monday, June 19, 2017The SMU community is advised to obey all warning signs and use caution at the adjacent intersection, especially during the demolition period.

In preparation for the demolition, the building’s parking lot on Daniel Avenue closed to the public on Tuesday, June 13, according to Rogers-O’Brien officials. Fencing is being installed this week to enclose the property.

These safety tips have been posted regarding traffic in the Hillcrest Avenue-Daniel Avenue intersection:

  • Please be aware of trucks entering and exiting the construction site.
  • Flagmen and traffic control signage are in place to assist with truck and traffic flow.
  • Partial street closure on Haynie Avenue (south side of the building) will begin Tuesday, June 20-Thursday, June 22.

Watch for construction on SMU streets during Fall Term 2012

Ongoing construction activities at SMU will continue to affect some parking areas and travel on some streets until Winter Break 2012 and beyond.

The parking area in the west end and in the southwestern quadrant of Park Cities Plaza will be close for construction activities through Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012. Please do not walk through the construction area and obey all warning signs. Plaza officials have stated that only customers may use the Plaza parking lot; others will have their vehicles towed at their expense.

Other affected areas:

  • Airline Road will be closed from the north side of its intersection with Binkley Avenue to the south side of its intersection with Dyer Court until Monday, Dec. 17, 2012.
  • Westbound travel on SMU Boulevard from Dublin Street will be detoured to turn around onto eastbound SMU Boulevard at the entrance to Moody Garage.
  • Travel on Binkley Avenue between Bishop Boulevard and Dublin will be detoured at Ownby Drive for access to Airline Road north of Dyer Court.
  • Southbound travel along Airline Road will be detoured at westbound Dyer Court.
  • The parking lot north of the Sigma Chi parking lot will remain closed through January 2014.
  • The alley between SMU Boulevard and Dyer Court will be closed at the west end of the alley at Airline Road. This will affect parking behind these fraternity houses:
    • SMU Service House
    • Pi Kappa Alpha
    • Phi Delta Theta
    • Phi Gamma Delta

Binkley Avenue closed for construction March 19-May 11, 2012

Traffic alert: Binkley Avenue from Airline Road to Dublin Street will be closed from Monday, March 19, through Friday, May 11, 2012, for construction activities. All parking spaces along Binkley Avenue will be inaccessible.

In addition, the south entrance and exit of the Moody Coliseum Garage will be closed. All vehicles that park in the Moody Garage must enter and exit from SMU Boulevard.

Construction closes SMU Boulevard eastbound lane April 25-May 13, 2011

SMU Boulevard closure map, April-May 2011-Due to construction activity, the eastbound lane of SMU Boulevard between Airline Road and Dublin Street will be closed from Monday, April 25, to Friday, May 13, 2011.

The closure will not include the section of SMU Boulevard between Airline Road and the Binkley Avenue Garage entrance.

The westbound lane of SMU Boulevard between Airline Road and Dublin Street will remain open. (See map at right – click for a larger version.)

The sidewalk will also be closed in the construction area.

In addition, vehicular traffic occasionally may be restricted at the Potomac Avenue-Airline Road intersection. A construction flagman will be present at such times to assist motorists.

Please observe all warning signs in the construction area.
