Head Football Coach June Jones (right) announced the signing of 25 student-athletes to National Letters of Intent Feb. 4, 2009. This year’s class has eight members identified as three- or four-star recruits by Rivals.com – equaling the number of such recruits in the 2007 and 2008 classes combined.
“Obviously, having a full year to focus on recruiting helped us put together what I believe is a very strong class,” Jones said. “SMU has become a very attractive option for standouts from Texas and across the nation. We’re building for bowl games and conference championships, and this class is another big step in that direction.” Read more.

The men’s tennis team achieved a 1-1 record in the National Indoor Championships at the Los Angeles Tennis Center Jan. 31, 2009. Sophomores Darren Walsh and Adham el-Effendi won in straight sets in singles matches against Fresno State, while first-year player David Costa won in three sets against his singles opponent.
