2011 President’s Picnic celebrates the centennial May 25

2011 Staff Appreciation Day and President's Picnic graphicThe Staff Association and President R. Gerald Turner invite all SMU staff members to the 2011 Staff Appreciation Day and President’s Picnic. The traditional post-Commencement celebration takes place 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. May 25 on the south lawn of Clements Hall.

This year’s menu includes BBQ beef and chicken, as well as veggie burgers, potato salad, fresh fruit, peach cobbler and other treats.

The 2011 Spirit Contest celebrates the SMU centennial as departmental teams dress to represent their favorite University decade. Other team competitions include the Mummy Wrap and Tug-of-War. RSVP online to register your department’s team for a competition and find a list of this year’s games.

Pick-up volleyball, horseshoes and frisbee golf will be played throughout the picnic. No team registration is required for these games.

President's Picnic 2010, cowboy hats and cactiRain couldn’t dampen the spirit on May 20 as the SMU staff gathered in Umphrey Lee Center for the University’s 2010 Staff Appreciation Day and President’s Picnic.

Hundreds of community members flocked to RFoC @ Lee to socialize, eat barbecue and veggie burgers, and watch the competition for the Mummy Wrap championship.

UPDATE: 2010 President’s Picnic is May 20

Update: Due to the likelihood of rain on May 20, 2010, the Staff Association has moved the President’s Picnic to RFoC in Umphrey Lee Center. Picnic food will be served 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. The Tug of War and Water Balloon Toss have been canceled, but the Spirit competition and Mummy Wrap contest will proceed as normal. For more information, visit smu.edu/staff_association/picnic.

Plan to attend and enjoy the food, fun and games – including that perennial favorite, the Tug o’ War championships.

Staff awards, appreciation are part of 2009 President’s Picnic

Staff Appreciation Day 2008SMU’s 2009 Staff Appreciation Day and President’s Picnic takes place 11 a.m.-2 p.m. May 21 on the south lawn of Clements Hall.

In addition, SMU President R. Gerald Turner will present the 2008-09 Presidential Recognition Awards for Staff during a brief ceremony 11:30 a.m.-noon in the Dallas Hall Rotunda. Four awards will be given: the New Employee Excellence Award, the Continuing Excellence Award, the Outstanding Leadership Award and the Innovation Award.

Staff members can earn up to 2 Wellpower Spirit credits for attending the picnic – one for attending and another for participating in any game. RSVP online to sign up for a competition and find a list of this year’s games.

2009 Staff Recognition Award nominations due May 8

Nominations are being accepted for 2009 Presidential Staff Recognition Awards through 5 p.m. Friday, May 8. The awards “recognize the contribution and excellence of staff employees to SMU,” and the nomination and selection process is managed by the Department of Human Resources.

Four of the $1,000 awards will be presented, each with unique criteria:

New Employee Excellence Award
Continuing Excellence Award
Outstanding Leadership Award
Innovation Award
