SMU’s 2012-13 Faculty-Staff Campaign kicks off with an Olympic-sized celebration 3-5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, in the Dedman Center for Lifetime Sports.

“Giving For the Gold” will feature food, beverages, Olympic-themed games and prizes. SMU President R. Gerald Turner will give his remarks at 4 p.m.

Faculty and staff gifts received by noon on Sept. 5 will be counted in the participation competition that jump-starts each year’s campaign effort. The school or administrative unit with the highest rate of participation this fiscal year to date will be announced during the kickoff event.

SMU is seeking the same levels of participation for faculty and staff as for alumni: 25 percent annual participation and 50 percent cumulative participation over the life of the campaign.

The Campaign Steering Committee includes representatives from 13 areas of the University, which includes all seven schools plus Athletics; Business and Finance; Central University Libraries; Development and External Affairs; President’s Office, Provost/Academic Affairs and Legal Affairs; and Student Affairs.

The Second Century Campaign launched Sept. 12, 2008, with the goal of raising $750 million by 2013 to support student quality, faculty and academic excellence and the campus experience.

Brick by brick: Centennial pavers help build Faculty-Staff Campaign

Julie Wiksten Centennial paverSMU faculty and staff members can make their mark on campus – literally – with a gift this year to the Second Century Campaign.

Each individual who makes a gift of $100 in honor of the University’s centennial will be recognized with an engraved paver placed in the Centennial Promenade – part of the new Turner Centennial Quadrangle to be constructed for the 100th anniversary of SMU’s opening in 2015. The Centennial Quad will be dedicated in a noon ceremony Sept. 9 at SMU’s Collins Executive Education Center, 3150 Binkley Avenue. Centennial Hall, a new interactive exhibit located in the basement of SMU’s Hughes-Trigg Student Center, will officially open immediately after the dedication.

In addition, gifts received before the Centennial Quad ceremony will help your school or unit get a gift in return. Each school or unit that achieves 40 percent giving participation by that date will be invited to a pizza party honoring the schools and units that meet the goal. Faculty and staff gifts made since June 1 and those already in payroll deduction will count toward school and unit goals.

Centennial contributions can be made with a one-time gift or through payroll deduction ($8.33 a month for 12 months). Gifts of any other size will count toward participation goals as well.

2010-11 faculty-staff campaign reaches 44 percent participation

Faculty-staff campaign carnival 2010The faculty and staff fundraising initiative supporting SMU’s Second Century Campaign has reached 44 percent giving participation among all faculty and staff members for fiscal year 2010-11, according to the University’s Office of Development and Alumni Affairs (DAA).

Legal Affairs, the Office of the President and the Annette Caldwell Simmons School of Education and Human Development all achieved their participation goals of 100 percent. Their achievements were announced at the Sept. 22 fall carnival that kicked off the 2010-11 faculty and staff campaign.

As of Sept. 30, faculty and staff have made 960 gifts in fiscal year 2010-11 to support The Second Century Campaign. Each area’s percentage of progress to its goal as of that date is listed below:

Legal Affairs – 100%
Office of the President – 100%
Simmons School of Education & Human Development – 100%
Perkins School of Theology – 89%
Development & External Affairs – 88%
Student Affairs – 75%
Office of the Provost – 74%
Lyle School of Engineering – 69%
Dedman College – 59%
Central University Libraries – 55%
Cox School of Business – 51%
Business & Finance – 48%
Dedman School of Law – 45%
Meadows School of the Arts – 38%
Athletics – 32%

The faculty and staff component of the University’s Second Century Campaign achieved total participation of 65 percent during the 2009-10 fiscal year, against a goal of 25 percent annual participation and 50 percent participation over the campaign’s life.

This year’s objective is for each of the University’s 15 areas to exceed last year’s participation rate. The deans, vice presidents and the athletic director have set goals for their respective units that reflect their results from the past year.

The Second Century Campaign officially launched Sept. 12, 2008, with the goal of raising $750 million by 2015 to support student quality, faculty and academic excellence and the campus experience.
