Family Weekend takes place in an ‘SMU State of Mind’ Sept. 16-18

A family group enjoying SMU Family WeekendSMU families will celebrate in Texas style during Family Weekend 2011. Set for Sept. 16-18, the weekend has a theme of “SMU: It’s a State of Mind.”

“The Texas theme really works with everything we have planned, from the Dads’ Club barbecue to Cowboys Stadium tours,” says junior John Angle, chair of the Student Foundation committee that is coordinating the events.

The weekend also includes a luncheon co-sponsored by the Mothers’ Club, departmental open houses, a student talent show and tailgating on the Boulevard before the game against Northwestern State at Ford Stadium.

“Family Weekend is one of my favorite traditions,” says Angle, who is an accounting major in Cox School of Business and a history major, with a Spanish minor, in Dedman College. “It’s a chance for students to introduce their families to their professors, friends and SMU spirit, and for families to make great memories together.”
