Pedestrian mall construction prompts traffic changes effective Feb. 16, 2011

The start of construction on a pedestrian mall extension along the east side of the Science Information Center and Fondren Library will affect traffic flows and pedestrian access in that area beginning Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011. The traffic-flow changes are expected to last about 10 weeks.

  • Traffic flow on McFarlin Boulevard (between Hughes-Trigg Student Center and Fondren Library) will be changed from one-way west bound to one-way east bound.
  • Robert S. Hyer Lane will be changed from one-way north bound to one-way south bound.
  • Barricades will be installed just east of the entrance to the Dedman Life Sciences Building parking lot (so the lot can remain open) and on University Boulevard at Airline Road. The University will be closed to all vehicular traffic between the barricades. Only construction vehicles will be allowed in the area.
  • In addition, pedestrians cannot use the east entrance to the link between Fondren Library and the Science Information Center during construction.

Extension of the Northeast Quad pedestrian mall from the southeast corner of Dedman Life Sciences Building to the southeast corner of Fondren Library is expected to be completed in August 2011.

The University apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause.
