Brittany GilliamSenior forward Brittany Gilliam (left) has been named to the 2009 women’s basketball preseason All-Conference USA team, the league announced Oct. 14. She is coming off a 2009 campaign in which she was named the C-USA Defensive Player of the Year. Gilliam concluded last season by scoring her 1,000th career point in the first round of the Women’s National Invitational Tournament (WNIT). Read more.

Senior men’s tennis player Robin Fahgen won the consolation championship in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) 2009 All-American Championships Oct. 9-11 in Tulsa. In the finals, he defeated four players in the Top 60 of the ITA’s rankings, including No. 6-ranked Dimitar Kutrovsky of Texas. Fahgen entered the season ranked 44th in the ITA. Read more.

The Mustang volleyball team will host its 2009 Dig Pink event during its Oct. 24 match against Houston in Moody Coliseum. Dig Pink events, which attract participants from across the country and are sponsored by the Side-Out Foundation, raise money and awareness for the fight against breast cancer. Fans who wear pink will receive 50 percent off admission. The game begins at 7 p.m. in Moody Coliseum; online donations are encouraged. Read more.
