SMU and Swim Across America will host a fundraising event to raise money for cancer research 1-5 p.m. Feb. 14, 2009 in Perkins Natatorium. “Swim Quick” is a tribute to legendary Olympic coach and SMU Distinguished Alumni Award recipient Richard Quick (’65, ’77), who was recently diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. Swimmers of all ages and ability will swim in Richard’s honor to join him in raising money for cancer research. SMU is one of 4 university hub sites for the event, along with Texas, Auburn and Stanford. Read more.

SMU tennis player Nicole BricenoFor two nights in Moody Coliseum, the men’s and women’s basketball teams will join the fight against breast cancer. The women’s team will participate in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association‘s 2009 WBCA Pink Zone initiative with its game against UAB at 2 p.m. Feb. 15. The men’s team will host Rice for “Pony Up for the Cure” at 7 p.m. Feb. 21. Read more.

Junior Nicole Briceno (right), the 2008 Conference USA Newcomer of the Year, is the conference’s Women’s Tennis Player of the Week of Feb. 10, 2009. Briceno went 3-0 in singles and 2-1 in doubles last week as the Mustangs vanquished league opponents Southern Miss and Tulane. Read more.
