SMU cross country beat six Top 25 teams for 6th place in the 2008 Notre Dame Invitational Oct. 3. Sophomore Silje Fjortoft was the fastest finisher among all underclassmen in the race. The team’s performance has boosted it to a No. 21 ranking in this week’s U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association women’s Division I poll. Read more.

Don Meredith at SMUThe men’s basketball team will have four games nationally televised by CBS College Sports Network in 2008-09, as announced by the network Oct. 9. The games will include both matchups with 2008 NCAA finalist Memphis, at Rice Jan. 14, and against East Carolina Jan. 24. Former basketball coach and analyst Fran Fraschilla will be the keynote speaker at the team’s 2008 Basketball Tip-Off Dinner Oct. 14. Read more.

SMU will honor legendary former quarterback Don Meredith during the SMU-Houston game Oct. 18. “Dandy Don,” who played for SMU during the 1957-59 seasons, is the 6th Mustang football great to be honored by the SMU Hall of Fame Committee. Meredith played for nine seasons with the Dallas Cowboys and was inducted into the Cowboys’ “Ring of Honor” in 1976. Read more.
