Rev. Anthony Lackland joined SMU in August as chaplain of the University’s Catholic community. He succeeds Deacon Bronson Havard, who served as chaplain for more than five years.
Ordained in June 2006, “Father Tony” received his B.M. degree in voice performance from SMU in 1993. He holds the position of full-time University chaplain concurrently with his post as Assistant Director of Vocations for the Diocese of Dallas. Most recently, he served as Parochial Vicar at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Richardson.
In addition, the University’s Catholic Campus Ministry is launching a new project centered on vocation. The four programs that make up the project, collectively called To Love and Serve the Lord, will address issues of religious vocation both broadly and in terms of vocations to the priesthood, religious life or lay ecclesial ministry. The programs will be funded substantially by a $12,000 grant from The Fund For Theological Education’s Calling Congregations initiative.
