Please read Nick Bastoni's newsletter on how much we buy and consume!
Here is your reading for our upcoming meeting! This is one of my personal favorite topics, so I can't wait to hear what you have to think! Please watch "The Meatrix" in preparation, too. You will find the link in the chapter.
Now that you have developed a Dallas eco-purchasing guide for your communities, discuss some of your unique finds/locations to purchase eco-friendly items. Also, discuss some of the benefits and challenges of eco-buying.

I've kept track of the energy consumption of these three buildings over the past couple of weeks, and I've found that Dallas Hall's energy usage typically hovers around $34.50 a day. The engineering buildings are actually decreasing their energy usage to $127.87 for Embrey and $77.72 for Junkins, so keep up the good work!
You can decrease your energy usage in these buildings by:
- turning off the lights after class ends
- shutting down computers in the labs when you're finished using them
- keeping the inside doors of Dallas Hall closed for more efficient heating and cooling
See how much of a difference you and your classmates can make by visiting smu.edu/sustainability and click on "SMU's Environmental Footprint Meter!"
Post your findings and observations from the SMU Environmental Footprint Meter. Be sure to include resources and helpful tips for residents to help them consume less energy.
