SMU fielded two national prize winning data mining teams: One team (photo 1 below) finished with a silver medal in the 2013 SAS Data Mining Shootout Competition, the recognition of which occurred on October 22, 2013 at the SAS Analytics Conference in Orlando, Florida; the second team (photo 2) finished in the top five in the nation in the 2013 Capital One Data Modeling Competition where they presented their data mining solution at the corporate headquarters of Capital One in McLean, Virginia on November 21 and 22, 2013.
