Thanks for your request for Robert’s Rules of Order. We placed the order for a copy for Fondren’s circulating collection earlier this week. It may take a few weeks to get it here and get it shelved.

No, we are unable to link directly to the Login page for your account in the library catalog, due to limitations within the catalog system. However, we are looking at ways we can provide better instructions that are more visible, so you will be able to find your library account more easily. It will take some time for us to test these options, so you won’t see changes immediately. We will let you know when these changes are ready so you can let us know what you think about them.

Extend the issue length for audiobooks (especially CD audiobooks). I just started listening to audiobooks and fell in love. It is a quick way for me to “read” for pleasure or to “read” books I have been wanting to read. I spend so many hours reading material for class that I end up not wanting to read for pleasure. I listen to CD audiobooks on the way to school, on the way to work, on the way home, etc. However, I can never finish the audiobook because it is due back in three days! I can hardly get through 1/4 of it. Even with a renewal, I only get through 1/2 of it. Please change the policy and extend the length. For the most part regular books aren’t issued for 3-6 days, why should audiobooks? The are not even checked out that often. I would love to start listening to CD audiobooks again and actually finish them. Please and thank you.

Thanks for your question in the library suggestion box. You have one renewal of CDs. We are transitioning away from CD audiobooks, however, and we are not adding to that collection anymore. Instead, we have Playaways, which are audio books in MP3 format. You can find Playaways in the Browsing collection in the Information Commons in Fondren. They can be borrowed for three weeks.

First, student assistants are trained to do their jobs. Many of our student workers are new to working in the library at the start of the school year, and it takes them time to learn their jobs. Second, we’re sorry you don’t find the student assistants or reference librarians helpful. You can reach a librarian in a variety of ways at Ask a Librarian. Third, supplies such as staples, tape, scrap paper, and a hole punch are placed on the table next to the Tech Help Desk in the Information Commons. Please let a student assistant or librarian know if supplies are running low so we can replace them.

1) Have at least some employees here after 2 am. 2) Not having the library the library open 24 hours for the first 15 days of school was stupid and not helpful. 3) We shouldn’t have to move down to the first floor after 2 am.

First, we have student assistants here after 2 am during the 24/5 days were are open. There is not enough traffic in the library to warrant having library staff or librarians here overnight.

Second, after tracking overnight usage in detail during the 2010-2011 academic year, we discovered that very few patrons (always less than 20 and sometimes none) are in the library on Friday and Saturday nights. With the approval of the President and the Provost and with the agreement of the incoming president of the student body, as of last fall we changed our hours to 24/5, closing at midnight on Friday and Saturday and opening at 9 am on Saturday and Sunday. We will resume 24/7 during the period around final exams; the exact schedule is posted on the online CUL calendar when available. We are not open 24/5 for the first two weeks of classes because we are hiring and training the student employees who will work those hours during the rest of the semester.

Third, in order to maintain a secure building for the overnight hours, we keep a smaller part of the library open. We do this to ensure students’ safety and to enable the security guards to do their jobs.

Please keep more of Fondren open 24/7! It is such a pain to pack up and move after you’ve been settled for hours and it is hard to find an area big enough or next to an outlet when everyone moves to one room. If you insist on closing part of the library, close the 3rd and 4th floors but keep the entire bottom two floors open. I basically live here and this is my biggest complaint.

Fondren Library offered 24/7 access to the library from fall of 2006 to spring of 2011. The extended hours were very popular with students, but after tracking overnight usage in detail during the 2010-2011 academic year, we discovered that very few patrons (always less than 20 and sometimes none) are in the library on Friday and Saturday nights.

The change to 24/5 allows us to continue to meet the needs of our campus users and also allows us to be better stewards of the funds entrusted to us.

If we can’t find the film and the catalog says it should be there, you will be asked to fill out a missing item form. You should hear back from us approximately 48 hours regarding the status of our search. If it doesn’t turn up quickly, we will mark the film as missing in the catalog, continue to search for the film for 4 weeks, and then reorder it for the collection.
