On Friday, October 4 from 2:00-4:00 pm SMU’s libraries will be open to all Family Weekend visitors in celebration of The Year of the Library. One hundred years after the hiring of the first librarian in 1913, this year marks a milestone for SMU that has ushered in a time for reflection, repositioning, and renovation. The new technologies and the shift to active learning methods have given rise to the libraries taking center stage within higher education. The libraries will put their services and collections on display.
At 2pm in Fondren Library Center, Dean McCombs will be discussing the 21st century library, the possibilities it holds, and what to expect as SMU looks ahead to the next century of campus libraries.
SMU is commemorating the Year of the Library, the 100th anniversary of the 1913 creation of University’s first library, the hiring of the first librarian and the acquisition of its first book.
