Show Me Your Badge! : The Michaux Nash Collection of Texas Sheriff’s Badges
About the exhibit: July 5th to September 12th, 2011
Michaux Nash began collecting Texas sheriff badges in the 1970s until he reached his goal of collecting a badge from every county in the 2000s. Nash is a third-generation banker, and is president of Dallas National Bank, where his collection was on display until 2009. This collection includes badges from every county in Texas, and includes an extra badge from Dallas and Rockwall counties.
Fondren Library Center’s exhibition displays archival images, graphics, and selected items from its collection along with the sheriff’s badges. Each of these items describes part of the interesting law enforcement history in Texas, also highlighted in literature and many Hollywood movies. Texas sheriffs and Dallas sheriffs particularly were involved in some of the most well-known events in law enforcement: arresting famous fugitives Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow and witnessing and investigating President Kennedy’s assassination.
