The SMU libraries have a wide range of materials for the baseball fan, including books from the personal
libraries of sportswriter Blackie
Sherrod and collector Howard Green.
Paul Rogers, Professor of Law at
SMU, is also a renowned baseball historian. His book The
Whiz Kids and the 1950 Pennant, written with
Hall-of-Fame pitcher Robin Roberts, tells the story of the young and talented Philadelphia Phillies and
their miraculous 1950 season, during which the perennial cellar-dwelling club won the National League
only to fall to the Yankees in the World Series.
