Faculty Learning Communities Off to a Great Start

This year SMU introduced a new kind of support for teaching excellence, the Faculty Learning Community.  These small interdisciplinary groups focus on a topic, study it together, and use their findings to enhance their own  classes.  In addition, the group as a whole will share what they’ve learned with the entire SMU teaching community.

This year’s groups have begun to meet and are already generating great ideas.

Congratulations to the new FLC members:

  • Teaching with Technology:  David Son (Chemistry) & Paul Krueger (Mechanical Engineering) (co-facilitators); Nathan Cortez (Law); Andrew Greenwood (Music); Mark Kerins (Film & Media Arts); Caroline Kethley (Teaching & Learning)’ Barbara Morganfield (Teaching & Learning); Scott Norris (Math); Lynne Stokes (Statistical Science)
  • Rethinking the Writing Assignment:  Sheri Kunovich (Sociology); Stephanie Amsel (English); Shelley Berg (Dance); Sandra Duhe (Communication Studies); Camille Kraeplin (Journalism); Jose Lage (Mechanical Engineering); Bruce Levy (English); Jesus Ramos-Kittrell (Music); Vicki  Tongate (English); Paige Ware (Reading Research)
