SMU Joins BIG EAST

The SMU community came together January 19 to celebrate the University’s move to the BIG EAST athletic conference. Participants in the event in Hughes-Trigg Student Center included (L-R): BIG EAST Commissioner John M. Marinatto, SMU Director of Athletics Steve Orsini, SMU President R. Gerald Turner, SMU Student Body President Austin Prentice and SMU Vice President for Development and External Affairs Brad E. Cheves.

Mustangs Score Bowl Victory

Mustang team members and fans celebrate SMU’s victory over the University of Pittsburgh in the 2012 BBVA Compass Bowl, January 7, at historic Legion Field in Birmingham, Alabama. The game, nationally televised on ESPN, was the Mustangs’ third bowl appearance in three years, tying the school record for consecutive bowls, and its 14th bowl appearance overall.

The Hilltop Shines on Broadway

The BIG EAST welcomed SMU and other new members to the athletic conference on December 13 with a special display in Times Square in New York City. A full-page ad featuring the above image appeared in The New York Times January 6, a day before SMU’s appearance in the 2012 BBVA Compass Bowl. Ads featuring the image also ran in publications in Dallas.
